A Bit Of A Breeze
by admin - 22:25 on 05 December 2013
The wild wind that swept through Scotland last night didn't ignore The Rural Retreat and its surroundings, for the road that runs past the bottom of our garden was closed early this morning while the remains of several trees and branches were chainsawed and moved to the verge.
Our very own souvenir of the storm is an impressive pine branch that covers the far end of a lawn littered with willow twigs. Much amassing of firewood and kindling will begin soon.
Wind, sub zero temperatures and snow flurries were of absolutely no interest to The Pride, which stayed indoors (apart from when urgent business called) and expended surplus energy by racing around and begging for food. And Willow became the first feline resident to climb to the top of their huge scratching post and perch on top, from where she looked down on lesser beings.
Life was less fun for humans. Matchgirl braved the roads to reach her office in Inverness while I stayed home in a cottage served with only intermittent power and prepared the wares which this evening I took to the Cromarty Pop-up Shop. Opening day is tomorrow. Don't miss it. But don't go in a gang – no cats will be swung in the bijou premises occupied by local artists and artisans for the next ten days.
