Lights In The Sky
by admin - 11:03 on 28 February 2014
My promise yesterday of snaps from Mdina was overtaken by last night's appearance of the Northern Lights which drew Matchgirl and me from the warmth of The Rural Retreat to the nearby lane from where we could watch them unobscured by trees.
When the Pentax was brought into play I made the mistake of fitting the 50mm prime lens. I still have suspicions about its focussing capabilities – even turned to manual and focussed on infinity it seemed unable to capture the stars sharply, never mind the outline of the horizon. By the time the 18-55mm zoom was back in place the best of the show was over.
But I'd never seen the Aurora before, and I got some great colours, so I'm reasonably happy. If you heard too late, or light pollution is a problem, here's a taste of the spectacle. The Mdina snaps will appear tomorrow, unless I'm sidetracked again.
