A Frustrating Day
by admin - 18:45 on 07 April 2014
Pandora returned to Dr Death's today where one of his assistants declared that she was recovering well. Her stitches are to come out on Friday. It can't happen soon enough.
Yesterday Matchgirl escaped to Shetland, leaving me in sole charge of three active moggies, only two of whom are allowed through the cat-flap. That means I've spent half the day opening the door for Maia and Willow (ignoring squeaks and scrabbling isn't an option) who delight in jumping back through the entry-only cat-flap to make me open the door again.
While doing that I have to keep an eye on the convalescent to ensure she doesn't open her wound by excessive activity or, if her bonnet's not in place, by excessive licking. It's an endless job.
So little has been done in the way of housework ahead of a visit by bike club friend Richard, who is to stay a few days from Wednesday and get Kawasaki San back on the road. There's plenty to do in the garden too. I'll have to be tougher tomorrow, however pitiful Pandora and Co are.
Someone else who's been suffering is Gregor, singer and acoustic guitarist with The Strays, who at 5.30 this morning struggled into A&E where an X-ray revealed he'd broken the little finger of his left hand.
This didn't happen overnight in a freak bed-related incident. He suffered the injury yesterday in Aberdeenshire while pursuing the manly sport of trials riding; he bore the pain for the rest of the day, stoic and uncomplaining.
It would be good to report that the snapped pinkie was sustained in a dramatic riding accident, or in an attempt to save a spectator from one of the rocky crevasses the riders must traverse. The less impressive truth is that he slipped while making a pre-race inspection of the course, on foot.
He returns to hospital on Friday for a check-up when the prognosis of six weeks in a cast will be reassessed. It's fortunate that his voice is undamaged because the next Strays gig is on the 26th – a charity bash at Jubilee Hall in Evanton. More details soon.
