For Those About To Rock

by admin - 15:35 on 29 May 2014

After two rehearsals with The Deeds it was back to Muir of Ord last night for The Strays' last rehearsal before the gig at the Balconie Inn on Sunday. The occasional fret discrepancy occurred, and a small amount of absent-mindedness, but on the whole we sounded good. Evanton should enjoy a memorable afternoon.

Whether I'll be in a fit state to enjoy it after a late night out with The Deeds remains to be seen, but if the Rolling Stones can still tour in their seventies I should be able to manage two consecutive gigs.

Regarding age, an important milestone was reached this year (nothing to do with Matchgirl) although I can't remember the exact date. In 1984 I retired the cheap Kay bass on which I learned to play and invested some hard-earned cash (I wish I could remember how much) in a secondhand Fender Precision. Thirty years on, it's still my number one instrument.

There's many a good tune played on an old bass; let's hope a few of them are played this weekend.

Let's also hope it leads to a few more gigs. Son of Seat came home today after I paid the huge ransom demanded by Richard at RM Motors. On the plus side, my motor now has a new radiator, a quiet exhaust, an MOT, and nothing else wrong with him. Until the next mechanical mishap occurs.
