Half Marathon, Full Speed
by admin - 22:46 on 08 June 2014
Whisper it, but Matchgirl's training for the Reykjavik Half Marathon is going rather well. Today she completed the whole distance in training, in a time she was pleased with, and without finishing as a physical wreck. In two weeks she'll do it for real, setting off at 10pm so she and the other mad people can run through the midnight sun. It takes all sorts.
With a bit of luck, a good time in Iceland and Aviemore, later this year, could inspire a return to full marathons next year. I've still got my fingers crossed for the Bermuda Marathon.
The half may seem like an easy option, but maybe not – a runner in today's Southend Half Marathon died. I never realised that Matchgirl was participating in extreme sports. My respect has grown even more (even if she did have to go to bed at 9.15pm when post-run fatigue caught up with her).
