One Glimpse Of Iceland
by admin - 17:47 on 04 July 2014
A huge wave of lethargy has engulfed The Rural Retreat since our return from Iceland. The grass remains uncut, weeds continue to flourish in the garden, and most of the holiday snaps are still unprocessed RAW files.
Some activity has taken place: willow tree branches that appear to have grown three feet in our absence have been cut back to a respectable length and no longer threaten to overwhelm our apple tree; Matchgirl has taken time off from catching up on Celebrity Masterchef to make her first post-half marathon run (and was happy with her performance); the holiday snaps have been assessed and the best (or least worst) put aside.
A few have been processed, so today I'll make public a taster of some of the Icelandic images to come. Not all are this dramatic, most being souvenir shots and reminders of a memorable time, but a small handful might be classed as a little bit special.
The light was flat for much of our stay but there were moments when the cloud parted enough to create a scene that had me running for the camera. We saw this while on the way to breakfast – part of the view from our balcony outside Vogur Lodge, captured with the 55-300 at full stretch to bring the mountains closer. To keep it steady, as I didn't take a tripod I rested the Pentax on the balcony rail, cushioned by a sweater.
Matchgirl has not yet officially declared whether she'll take part in another run in Iceland. I've got my fingers crossed.

I'll keep my fingers crossed as well! Paul's mentioned going back for a trail race ... :-)
