Chasing Butterflies
by admin - 20:11 on 28 July 2014
Catching butterflies with a camera is a lot more difficult (I imagine) than with a net and a jar of chloroform. Many fluttered by me today but as few chose to rest within a sensible distance it's been difficult to name most of them.
One identification was made, of a Scotch Argus – one of a large number of species I've not yet been able to add to my digital collection and possibly the first I've seen of this one. The snap was not of a quality to share but good enough to compare with the one in my butterfly guide.
I already have a Small Tortoiseshell in the collection but the one that came to rest on what I believe is part of some ancient butter-making equipment outside our nearby ruined steading was too good to ignore.
And when all else fails I can always rely on cats to provide a photogenic pose.
