Back In The Spotlight

by admin - 11:24 on 10 September 2014

Proof that autumn is almost upon us (if more were needed) is that local clubs and societies are coming back to life. Black Isle Writers meet this afternoon, Dingwall Camera Club held its first meeting of the new session on Monday and last night I was the star attraction at East Sutherland Camera Club's opening night in Brora.

My talk, I'm relieved to say, was reasonably fluent (which it should be as this was its eighth outing) and well received by around thirty members who are lucky enough to enjoy a comfortable room with good acoustics in Brora Community Centre, not the chilly, echoing hall some clubs have to cope with. They also benefit from the biggest plug-in computer speaker I've ever seen – it almost rivalled my bass practice amp and needed an integrated wheely-suitcase-type handle to move it around. Impressive. I had to turn the volume down to twenty per cent.

As a bonus, the audience saw The Fearless Ones in action and my Iceland AV made its public premiere. Sadly, this might be my last appearance as a guest speaker because the diary's now blank, although there's a faint hope of an invitation to a central belt club. We'll see.

However, I'm not lost completely from the spotlight. On Saturday, when I should be celebrating our sixth wedding anniversary with Matchgirl, candles and a bottle of wine, I'll be at the Balconie Inn in Evanton when The Strays return to the stage at around nine o'clock. Don't be late.
