Ready For The Big Day
by admin - 15:42 on 24 December 2014
Christmas is almost upon us: the presents are wrapped; ingredients for The Festive Veggie Lasagne are in the fridge, as are those for The Yuletide Smoked Salmon and Bagel Breakfast; port, Bailey's, gin and malt whisky are close at hand; the Christmas Lotto has been purchased in hope of a leisurely 2015.
In anticipation of the big day, the Dyson was brought out of its dusty corner today, much to the consternation of cats who don't see the machine often enough to grow used to its roar.
Regular readers may be surprised to learn that The Pride will not be swamped with festive treats tomorrow. Every day is Christmas for our pampered pusses so trying to make one day more special than the rest would be difficult, although a plethora of discarded wrapping paper should keep them happy for at least the morning (after they've accepted that smoked salmon is not for them, however much they insist that it is).
Music Update: Johnny Foxes is smaller than I remember, and I'd forgotten about the six-inch clearance (no exaggeration) between by head and the roof when I'm on stage. Perhaps fear of injury was the reason for a less than sparkling performance on my part, although other members of City Limits suffered from occasion memory lapses. Maybe it was just one of those nights.
The Sunday might crowd was enthusiastic (especially when a friend of Ashley's made a guest appearance to sing Livin' on a Prayer) but not huge – unsurprising after so many people piled into the pubs on Friday and Saturday night to celebrate the end of work until after Christmas.
The band is out again on Saturday, back at the Bandstand Bar in Nairn where I predict the best gig so far, memory lapses permitting. No rehearsals are scheduled although mid-January has been mentioned.
Another last-minute cancellation was Tuesday's planned rehearsal by The Strays – no surprise with so many Christmas preparations taking place. We'll try again in January. Or possibly February.
