Musical Ups And Downs
by admin - 17:22 on 28 February 2015
The music business continues to be challenging, even with two bands on the go – or not, as has been the case in February, which was a gig-free zone.
Fortunately, the drought ends tomorrow when City Limits play at a private do in Inverness. A rehearsal was rumoured but came to nothing so the gig will be our first get-together since the last one at the end of January. Rehearsals are for wimps.
Apart from The Strays, that is, who reconvened last Wednesday with the exception of guitarist Richie who was beset by family dramas. We've slipped back into the groove remarkably quickly and have even added a couple of new songs (and dropped a couple too, which was always the way).
A guitarist will also be missing at the next rehearsal because Jim's extended holiday comes to an end next week: he's been summoned back to his oil rig. This is a nuisance because The Strays have landed a gig on the 21st – a 50th birthday bash in Inverness. Jim's back home a couple of days before so we can look forward to another performance at which fingers will be crossed that all goes well.
The following week City Limits return to Johnny Foxes, so March will be at least a three-gig month for me – although it pays to never count your musical chickens. Our date the following week at the Bandstand in Nairn has been scratched by the venue who'd double booked us and a more-favoured band.
So at the moment April looks pretty quiet too. Anyone out there need a band?
Chatterbox Update: The magazine is now in the shops. Distribution was a satisfying experience because several outlets reported that eager readers had been pestering them already for the new edition. Don't miss your copy – it's a cracker.
