Spring Is Unsprung
by admin - 16:52 on 22 March 2015
It couldn't last forever – after almost a week of springlike temperatures and sunshine (apart from the cloudy morning of the eclipse) today the mercury plummeted. This is of particular displeasure to cats who just a couple of days ago were rolling on their backs in the dust and the sun (well, Pandora and Willow were – Maia's too dignified) and enjoying long rambles outside The Rural Retreat in search of lizards and rodents. Today they've mooched around the cottage like bored children (hungry ones, in Maia's case) and stared, affronted, through cat-flap and window at the greyness outside.
The good weather lasted long enough for me to carry out raking and ignite a two-day bonfire, although I didn't quite get around to some much-needed weeding.
Conditions were particularly fine yesterday when we took a jaunt via Nairn and Grantown to Glenlivet so Matchgirl could examine the route of a 10k she's to run in a couple of weeks' time. Hares and pheasants abounded, as did motorbikes, so it was a shame we were aboard Son of Seat rather than Kawasaki San. Joint map-reading is much easier in a car.
