Making The Best Of Things

Not as much rehearsal as we'd hoped took place last night when The Strays were beset by equipment malfunctions.
First Jim's tuner set his guitar at odds with the rest of the band; then Gregor's microphone lead died, and having no handy spare he had to sing the rest of the night unamplified; then the volume gradually faded on Richie's amp, leading to mutterings about dodgy knobs and soldering. But what do you expect from a practice amp bought for £7 from Gumtree? The rhythm section soldiered on through it all.
Despite the distractions we worked through some of the set and came up with a few ideas for new songs, including Locked Out Of Heaven by Bruno Mars – that's a nifty bass line.
Bad news for Jim – no oil rig work for a month – is good news for the rest of us because we'll be able to fit in more rehearsals before The Strays return to public performance on April 25.
