Racing To The Deadline
by admin - 20:10 on 19 May 2015
A week ago I was swanning around in shirtsleeves. Today, two days, after hail and torrents of rain, I was wearing a scarf indoors.
Fortunately the weather was decent yesterday when the Pentax was out and about in the service of Chatterbox, snapping a Rosemarkie restaurant, a Fortrose sailor and a Cromarty gallery for the next edition, out June 1 (if I get it finished in time). Many pages of the Black Isle's best quarterly community magazine were finished today; more will be finished tomorrow so my press day deadline looks achievable.
I should even have time for a break on Thursday to brush up on The Strays' set ahead of a rehearsal that evening and our return to The Room on Saturday.
The venue that said City Limits would never play there has seen the error of its ways for, just a couple of weeks after its pronouncement, we (CL) were offered three dates. Two were already taken – that's life – but we'll finally get to play there in July.
Music is not the only excitement on Saturday, when the bulk of the day will find me prowling around Dingwall Auction Mart as official snapper at the Highland Wool Festival. No money is involved but I've been promised all the tea and cake I can eat. The winner of PhotoActive Philip's prestigious Light Monkey Award must be worth more but times are hard.
Mr Monkey has settled in well at The Rural Retreat, despite the cold, and has suffered no trouble from The Pride. He's pictured above with my two other major snappery awards – I know which is my greatest achievement.
