Pesky Moggies And Night-time Ramblers
by admin - 20:07 on 27 May 2015
Almost June, and still no daylight pine martens. They've visited less at night too; it seems that The Rural Retreat's status as a marten hot spot is now just a fading memory.
The cause is clear, for the evidence was captured by Bushnell last night: it's all the fault of Mystery Moggy.
I've already stopped leaving out peanuts, raisins and peanut butter because the pesky puss eats them all, but I thought Nutella was still a safe bet. After all, the experts tell us that cats aren't interested in sweet things.
But Bushnell proves different. Shortly after midnight last night the feasting feline was snapped on our gate; the next shot showed him still there, but a severe lack of chocolate spread had occurred.
Not a pine marten was to be seen, although a suspicious stranger (of the human variety) was snapped walking past the gate at 3am, his gaze attracted to the camera's red LEDs, and back again a few minutes later. He may be a marten mugger, and the real culprit, but my money's still on Mystery Moggy as the villain.
You can't trust cats.
