The Perils Of Printing

by Russell Turner - 18:30 on 26 November 2015

The times for local publishing are exciting. Tomorrow, the printing of two new Bassman Books titles should be completed and shortly afterwards Rosemarkie Connections and Memories of a Ben Line Man should begin to appear in the shops.

That's the theory. But experience demands that, unlike two anxious authors, I wait patiently for the email that tells us that all is well and the books ready for collection or delivery.

Also currently being printed is the next edition of Chatterbox. And, as ever, problems with the printer at Chatterbox HQ have hit production. Highland Office Equipment, which services the monstrous Minolta, has been out twice and a third visit was expected today. Despite that, we should be out on schedule on December 1st.

However, the biggest current drama involves City Limits, which on Sunday makes its debut as a three-piece, Ashley being unavailable for our gig at Jacko's Bar in Nairn. This is useful, for her forthcoming involvement with a higher-paying function band means her future with us is in doubt.

But rock and roll is an uncertain (and mercenary) business. At last night's three-piece rehearsal, drummer Mike revealed that he is to become the new keyboard player with Ezra, another local function band. A 2016 diary that already has sixty gigs in it, even the least of which pays the same as City Limits' highest-paying gigs, is the main attraction, he admits. He'll join the new band in late March, if not before

So City Limits now needs a new drummer as well as a new female singer. Oh calamity.

Laptop Update: Matchgirl invested in a new Acer Aspire F15. The only down side is that we now have to learn how to use Windows 10. Maia has a lot to answer for.
