Breaking Up Is Hard To Do

by Russell Turner - 21:36 on 12 June 2016

The residents of The Rural Retreat separated this morning – The Pride to Copperfield Cattery, the humans to the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow.

Separation was no fun. Three cats shouting their displeasure all the way from the Black Isle to Kirkhill (site of the closest moggy holiday home to hold the Matchgirl Seal of Approval) was hard work. Once there, none took an immediate liking to their barracks prison cell holiday chalet, especially Maia, who hissed at the inoffensive strangers in the neighbouring block.

A courtesy call later in the day revealed that all had settled down. It's amazing what dishes of complimentary biscuits can do.

Matchgirl and I had stress of our own when stuck behind a southbound travelling circus on the A82, but things calmed down once it was in the rear view mirror and the journey became more pleasant. Shame about the dull weather. Stress levels rose again when we entered the hotel car park and read of a £40 charge for 24 hours' occupancy. Fortunately it's reduced to £12 for residents.

So far we've enjoyed some fine cocktails and good food at the hotel, and a wander through some busy Glasgow streets. Tomorrow may involve some cultural pursuits in museums and/or galleries, and maybe some pampering at the hotel spa, but the highlight will be the recording of I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue at the Pavilion Theatre. I can't wait.
