The Weekend Of Living Dangerously
by Russell Turner - 15:59 on 09 September 2016
City Limits continue to live dangerously, partly through circumstance and partly through design.
Tonight was to be our full band debut at the Waterfront in Wick, but singer Jenna has become unexpectedly unavailable so City Limits Lite will motor north and play a set including several songs that have not been aired for quite some time. We should get away with it – official doors open time is 10pm but we’ve been warned that the punters rarely arrive until much later, eager for late night drinking after much early evening drinking. We’re expecting an enthusiastic crowd.
Unfortunately, the 2am finish will not be followed by a comfy local bed, which means we’ll all be home some time around 4.30am.
Three become four tomorrow night when a wedding gig includes our first live half-hour ceilidh set, acoustic guitar, bass and drums supplemented by Jenna on a keyboard featuring an accordion voice. As Sam’s been too busy as a tutor he’s not had time to rehearse the Gay Gordons, Waltz and Strip the Willow sets prepared by the rest of us (some of it last night) so we’ll see how they sound for the first time when we play them for the eager dancers.
That’s really living dangerously.
