All Change At The Rural Retreat
by Russell Turner - 19:46 on 13 October 2016
Today’s the day when, after six faithful years, Agent Cooper is traded in and Matchgirl’s Sunny DS3 takes his place in The Rural Retreat’s parking lot.
Matchgirl had planned to collect the Citroën tomorrow, then realised to her horror that she leaves early in the morning for another Shetland jaunt, so she’s taking advantage of Arnold Clark’s Thursday late-opening and will be home any moment now with her new best friend.
The motor has been neither sexed nor named.
Matchgirl has also been splashing the cash on The Pride, whose bedding shows much wear and tear (and the occasional splash of vomit, but that’s cats for you). A few days ago Maia’s favourite winter bed was replaced, as was the cushion in Willow’s purple throne and the blanket in Pandora’s basket on the kitchen windowsill.
Cats hate change, but all have coped admirably. All three snoozing spots have been used – even Maia adapted to her new resting place without complaint. An increase in size and cushiony comfort may have helped. Today she even allowed Pandora to join her rather than give her the slap that such temerity usually provokes.
I tried for a snap but a black cat curled up in a black bed gave the Pentax little chance to shine.
