Tough Times For Moggies

by Russell Turner - 17:05 on 02 December 2016

Today’s been no fun for cats. Pandora shouted unhappily all the way to the vet, where she received her annual vaccination and MOT (all fine but a little overweight), and all the way back. Much of the rest of the day was spent in a post-injection torpor on the purple cat cushion that occupies my former place on the sofa. Cats get first choice.

Willow has been penned in the bedroom all day, refusing to provide the urine sample we need to give Dr Vet so that she can confirm what we already know – that The Grey Streak is back to full health. Our smallest moggy is not happy with short-term toileting arrangements that involve small beads of non-absorbent litter (so liquid can be syringed up and into a specimen jar). Matchgirl fears a dirty protest in the corner of the room. We’ll see.

Meanwhile, upset by all the changes to routine, Maia has spent a restless day, including time spent loitering outside the usually open bedroom door. Cats don’t like change.

As for me, after yesterday’s delivery stint the latest Chatterbox is in the shops and takings from the previous edition banked. Circulation was down a little, following the loss of one of our sales outlets, but we’ll soldier on.

Highlight of the day (so far) was the third episode of The Grand Tour, from Whitby, on Amazon Prime. We’re easily pleased in The Rural Retreat.

Stop Press: Willow did the deed in the appropriate place and has been released, much to the relief of her and her bladder. Dr Vet will test the results tomorrow.
