Warm Spots On A Cold Day

by Russell Turner - 22:44 on 16 March 2017

Spring may be around the corner but winter’s not quite done yet. Blue sky and wind, then rain, then a flurry of snow took turns during the day so it’s not surprising that The Pride has spent most of it indoors, enjoying the many sleeping places provided by indulgent carers and a few discovered by its members themselves.

Willow favours the purple throne in front of the radiator, Maia the big black bed next to the other radiator, while Pandora curls up in the wicker flower basket warmed by the sun through the kitchen window. In the evening they played musical laps until Pandora won, leaving Maia to scowl at her across the living room from her place on the sofa. Willow remained in her throne.

Willow keeps an eye on things from the comfort of the purple throne.

Not all has been peaceful, as the headless vole I discovered this morning under the dining table could testify, and there’ll be more feline drama tomorrow when I take Maia for her monthly injection by one of Dr Death’s colleagues. Matchgirl should make the most of her holiday, even if the Algarve is currently experiencing some dismal weather. At least she’ll feel at home.

Literary Update: The imminence of spring has led to an upsurge in sales of Rosehaugh and Ben Line Man, the lion’s share going to Waterstone’s in Inverness. A reprint of Ben Line will have to be considered soon.
