A Night With The Ladies

Ladies’ Night in Elgin turned out to be just a part of Ladies’ Day – an annual event at Elgin City Football Club – which began at noon. This might explain why, after City Limits had unloaded the van and left to find food, we returned shortly after 7pm to find a drunken partygoer being tended to outside the venue.

We’d arrived an hour earlier and ventured tentatively into the function room where our ears were assaulted by the sound of two hundred well lubricated women playing party games with the aid of the DJ, taking selfies and admiring each others’ outfits. Red was the evening’s theme, the variety of dresses on show ranging from elegant to inadvisable.

Dancing was perpetrated from the outset and continued throughout the evening, despite (or possibly because of) there being few men to join in. The ladies also liked to sing, especially Country Roads, and much praise was heaped on us afterwards. We even had an enquiry about playing at a wedding – bonus.

We played the last song at midnight and I was home by 2am, departure delayed by finishing leftover curry – the perfect end to a great gig.

Cats don’t care, though. I was wakened around 8am by the sound of Willow terrorising a vole on the kitchen lino. Sadly, it didn’t survive. The Grey Streak is a monster.
