The Yawning Man

A glorious spring day in the Highlands, May has begun and Kawasaki San is hidden away in the garage. What a waste.
The reason is less than five hours’ sleep following the latest City Limits gig, at Foxes in Inverness. They like us there – just as well as we’re back for two days the weekend after next.
The gig was touch and go for a while. After a quiet start we’d built up the crowd and got them dancing when technical problems (the PA is a mystery to me) meant we had to break off halfway through the first set and lose all momentum. So when we resumed it was with a bang – our every-verse-faster-than-the-one-before version of Proud Mary – and kept on playing until 1.30am to another enthusiastic audience.
Highlights of the night were the appearance of Jenna’s keyboard, which meant we could play Don’t Stop Believin' by Journey (the crowd loved it and sang along – most probably only knew the song from Glee), and the small group which broke into the chorus of I’ve Got A Brand New Combine Harvester after it got bored of me and Sam vamping the intro to Galway Girl when Jenna and Keith were slow to start. Maybe we should introduce it into the set.
My new titanium Isolate earplugs made their second outing and proved invaluable. Highly recommended.
So rising at 7.30am was a nuisance, but when you’re awake you’re awake. At least it meant I could catch up quickly with the final episode of Line Of Duty. The rest of the morning was spent doing Chatterbox admin, ahead of work on the next edition, and enjoying some sunshine with Willow, who knows how to enjoy herself in the garden. Better a toy fish than another lizard.
Willow snapped by me in the garden...
...and by Matchgirl, indoors with a friend.
