In Search Of Lizards
by Russell Turner - 18:16 on 02 May 2017
Another glorious spring day in the Highlands and still Kawasaki San is hidden away in the garage. Maybe he’ll emerge tomorrow, although I should be working hard on Chatterbox. And the Forth Railway Bridge that is the lawn demands attention again. It’s going to be a long summer.
One side effect of the recent sunshine is a more active lizard population. One was discovered in the cottage this morning, covered in dust, suggesting it had been brought indoors much earlier and escaped into a hidden corner.
Shortly after the reptile had been released into the wild a second one (the tail confirmed its difference) was carried indoors by our grey lizard hunter. That too was rescued and returned. The afternoon saw a third struggling mouthful brought indoors, again by Willow. Another rescue was performed.
The second rescued lizard recovers on top of a fence post.
Earlier in the day The Grey Streak had displayed greater ambition. During a stroll up the lane beside the cottage she paused to take a good sniff at a verge. I couldn’t see a thing until a female pheasant flew shrieking from the grass, leaving the hunter disappointed. Pheasants: masters (and mistresses) of camouflage.
