Sunshine And Highlands

by Russell Turner - 13:40 on 07 May 2017

After a week of failing to make the most of Highland heat and blue skies I got out yesterday just in time to beat today’s damp and cool weather.

Kawasaki San started first time to cover a 150-mile round trip via Strathpeffer, Ullapool, Ledmore, Strath Oykel, Bonar Bridge, Ardgay, Ardross and Tullich Muir. Tea and cake was taken at the Oykel Bridge Hotel, where the cake was tasty but the portions can best be described as ‘polite’, and more tea was taken at Tullich Muir, home of Mr and Mrs Tweedy where I was introduced to Bramble, the mother-to-be of their next batch of piglets.

Mr Tweedy made the introductions alone; the only indication of Mrs Tweedy was pathetic coughing from a distant room, of which I was warned to stay well clear. At least she’ll have her poorliness out of the way before next week when we head south to see ex-Genesis axe hero Steve Hackett at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.

The day’s only disappointment was the absence of Matchgirl, who claimed that work came first.

Assynt

The Pentax went along for the ride but came out on only a couple of occasions, one of them to capture the view looking north to Assynt, with Elphin in the mid-ground. Much cleaning up in Photoshop was necessary because using the camera at the f29 end highlighted the dust covering the sensor. The time has come to take it to Ffordes for a proper professional buffing and valeting – after ten years of use the Pentax has earned it.
