Midsummer Mayhem
by Russell Turner - 17:52 on 21 June 2017
No siskins died today (that I know about). Willow’s first midsummer victim was a wren; her second was a vole. Both were taken in the morning. Pandora, who’s more sneaky, snatched a great tit this afternoon – something I would not have known if I hadn’t happened to hear a brief commotion, see the bushes shake, and stepped out in time to see The Tabby Terror hurry away with a doomed mouthful.
Maybe midsummer is to blame and the shortening days will now reduce the garden slaughter.
The last of yesterday’s victims did after all provide food for a pine marten, and there’s a Bushnell snap to prove it. With luck today’s corpses will go the same way if I can keep off crows and scavenging cats, including Mystery Moggy who was on the prowl last night. Pandora was not happy.
The latest feline portraits include an alert Pandora, plus Willow bringing back memories of Tess. Gone but definitely not forgotten.
Band Update: Jenna became a mum again today, a few days late, but has turned down both of this weekend’s gigs which will be performed by City Limits Lite. Some people have a serious lack of commitment.
