No Going Back

There’s proper snow on the Ben, and on the way to Inverness this morning I passed two cars with a light covering of the white stuff, obviously down from higher ground. Grandson of Seat displayed an outside temperature reading of 2ºC.
Yet on my return I donned shorts for the last run of Week 5 of the couch to 5k. Matchgirl was incredulous. I’m reluctant to change a clothing combination that so far has worked but if there’d been sleet or icy gales I might have done. No doubt the time will come.
Two 12-minute runs were completed successfully and without hypothermia, although Matchgirl’s latest suggestion to regulate my pace and heart – breath in, four steps, breath out, four steps, repeat – proved only partly successful. I’ll try again on the next run, another 12x2.
Despite having run non-stop for no more than twelve minutes, I’ve now completely committed myself to an appearance in London next April by setting up my charity page. You’ll find it here. All donations welcome.
As for Matchgirl, her Florence preparations are going well in spite of a severe attack of maranoia – a phenomenon recognised by all marathon runners counting down to their big day in which every ache, twitch or itch heralds total debility and ruination of their athletic dreams. In the end, her 12-mile run yesterday (which puts my 12-minute one into context) proved no problem.
Meanwhile, real life goes on. The next Chatterbox is taking shape and today I sent files to Big Sky for the next Bassman Books publication – children’s book Seasons Change. We’ve been promised it will be ready in time for pre-Christmas sales. Let’s hope it’s a big seller.
