Off To A Good Start
by Russell Turner - 15:33 on 01 January 2018
2018 began in a packed pub in Carrbridge (the Cairn Hotel), the punters singing along to Auld Lang Syne and Loch Lomond, led by City Limits. We finished an hour later after two encores. Drunks didn’t fall over the equipment (not that we saw any). We even received tips (the cash kind). The management has already asked us to do next Hogmanay.
That’s a good start to the year. The only thing missing was Matchgirl, who’d stayed home with The Pride – just as well because it was unhappy when startled by nearby midnight fireworks. Fortunately they didn’t last long.
The band is out again tonight, then it’s a quiet month until we return to Elgin at the end of January. This is no great hardship because pubs are often dead in January until pay day. No-one has money left to go out with. We’ll take the opportunity to learn a few new songs.
On stage in Carrbridge
Today was a crisp, still, sunny one, perfect for beginning the new running year, but after getting to bed at 3am and rising around 10.30 I lacked both the will and the energy to do anything. That will change on Wednesday when Week 2 of training begins. I’m even looking forward to it. Who’d have thought?
