What To Wear?

by Russell Turner - 17:23 on 08 April 2018

Two days on from my 18-mile epic, and with a late night being a rock star between, I’m pleased to report that my legs are fine and I’m ready for my next run. The good news is that it’s only 30 minutes.

Some schedule shuffling means that next week’s programme is: massage on Monday, 30min run on Tuesday, 70min run on Thursday, 50min run on Saturday following a gig on Friday or on Sunday following a gig on Saturday. Life is hectic.

As promised, Cats Protection has sent the letters that spell my name (and a card) to iron on to my running vest. Assuming I don’t melt it with the iron, that will leave a choice of vests for The Big Day: my Animals Asia apparel was sent away to the official London Marathon printer and returned within days.

I think I'll pass on the ears and whiskers.

Further choices will have to be made. I’ve grown used to the running tights and long-sleeved top worn during training but, unless I’m lucky, the London temperature will likely be ten degrees higher than home so I’ll have to try some runs in shorts and with either a T-shirt and vest or just a vest. Don’t run on the day in anything you’ve not tried before, is the advice, or chafing and jogger’s nipple could be the result.

Maybe higher temperatures will reach us in time. Spring is definitely here, our daffodils are almost ready to bloom and feline hunting has increased by a notch or two, as evidenced, amongst others, by the rear end of a vole left outside the door a few days ago and Pandora regurgitating unidentifiable wildlife earlier today.

I don’t know why I’m running for Cats Protection. They’re what the rest of the world needs protecting from.
