Another Shetland Blockbuster
by Russell Turner - 21:27 on 11 April 2018
Today should have involved work but laziness took over. Or I could call it rest before my big exertion on the Sunday after next. However, I did have enough energy to get Kawasaki San to RM Motors where he passed his MOT despite mechanic Richard’s warning that either the front brake disc or piston needs attention. There’s always something.
I fancied a good ride out to celebrate but a cool haar was blowing in off the firth – so cool that the heated grips came on halfway home. Maybe he’ll get a spin tomorrow, after the next training run – 70 minutes, which should see me comfortably complete a 10k and a bit more.
There’s another task to complete tomorrow: delivery of a batch of the latest Bassman Books publication to the Shetland Times bookshop in Lerwick, the town in which jet-setter Matchgirl is currently ensconced. It’s a small world.
With luck, RAF Catfirth 1918 – the story of the island’s First World War flying boat base – will prove as popular in Shetland as Ben Line Man did.
