Protecting Wildlife

The Scottish Daily Mail yesterday carried the picture of the dead fox and pine marten. Tomorrow it will appear on the front page of the Ross-shire Journal.

Dolphin James, who was the first to report the outrage to the police, told me he was impressed by how seriously they took the situation. They're sure about who the culprit is – a previous offender, it seems – and determined to make him pay. Splendid news.

Staying with endangered animals, Matchgirl has drawn my attention to a petition to be presented this week to a conference at which lifting the ivory trade ban will be debated. There might just be time left to sign it. You'll find the petition here.

As Matchgirl said, when you've been lucky enough to see heffalumps in the wild, as we did in Namibia, the thought of them being killed for commerce is even more disgusting.
