An Uncertain Future

by admin - 22:44 on 09 April 2012

Piteous cries could be heard all the way when Bess and I travelled to Dingwall this morning for her latest appointment with Dr Vet. Matchgirl was unavoidably elsewhere, so the cat carrier was on the passenger seat, rather than my knee, which meant that the occupant was unable to enjoy the passing scenery.

Dr Vet's first task was to make yet another blood test, to assess whether the patient was fit for the proposed dental operation. The answer, as it turned out, was no.

I won't go into technicalities (read Matchgirl's blog for that) but the end result was that Bess spent the rest of the day on a drip to flush out her system in general and her kidneys in particular. Don't worry – this wasn't an emergency, just Dr Vet being cautious.

The patient is now home again and being hand-fed by Matchgirl because of her poorly moggy molar. The dental operation has been pencilled in for next Monday, just three days before we're scheduled to fly to London for the pre-planned non-marathon weekend. Whether we'll go depends on how perky our puss proves to be in the next few days. And travel insurance doesn't cover cat-related dramas – Matchgirl's checked.

So perhaps it's fortunate that Marathon Matchgirl isn't at peak fitness and psyched up to break the four-hour barrier. The strain on her dodgy hamstring might be a blessing after all.
