Flocking To The Feeders

by admin - 21:15 on 25 April 2012

Life at The Rural Retreat continues unchanged following our brief sojourn in The Soft South. Last night, vast numbers of martens took turns to parade through the garden and be captured by Bushnell. Today, even vaster flocks of birds clustered around the feeders.

Most popular was the bigger peanut holder. At one point, four goldfinches patronised it; at another, six siskins; later on, four or five greenfinches; plus the usual complement of tits, sparrows, robins, dunnocks, yellowhammers and chaffinches. Also seen around the garden were pheasants, woodpeckers and a lone treecreeper.

So where are the snaps? you ask. Sadly, bad weather combined with work at the Mac on a real paying job (I get them now and again) left little opportunity to deploy the Pentax. And there's more work to be done tomorrow.

I'll have to take my chances soon – just days after she despatched a blameless vole, Bess today emphasised her continuing return to health by taking the life of of an innocent siskin. No wonder she had no appetite for cat food. The beast.
