What Happened To the Sun?

by admin - 18:01 on 28 May 2012

Most of the UK continues to bask in sunshine for at least another day. Not so lucky is the Black Isle, where the weather's become dull and cooler, much to Bess's disgust.

After several days in which her paws have barely touched the carpet, this morning she took breakfast indoors and enjoyed her post-prandial nap on the couch rather than in the long grass, which had become her recent custom.

She left the cottage later and returned to the great outdoors to make the most of the solitude while she can – workmen are busy making the long-vacant former home of the Montague's fit for the new tenants expected to take possession at the weekend. This is also a blow to me and Matchgirl, who've enjoyed being sole occupiers of our little patch of the Highlands.

The silver lining for Bess is that no dogs are allowed. Whether the new household contains feline members is unknown; we've been assured that delinquent teenage boys (or any boys at all) are no part of the new family.

The poorer weather (for cats) might be a boon for snappers. Marten sightings in daylight continue to be rare. On the other hand, my attempts today to snap tree sparrows feeding chicks were hampered by dull light. At least it's not raining. Yet.

Magazine Update: The summer edition of ace Black Isle magazine Chatterbox should be in the shops this weekend, printer permitting. We've again had production problems caused by the flashy Minolta supplied by Highland Office Equipment but the print run is almost complete. Take a look at our shiny new website to see where you can buy a copy and to browse through past editions. Success in the Highland Media Awards can't be far away.
