The Curse Of Chatterbox
by admin - 22:14 on 28 August 2012
The third edition of Chatterbox with which I've been involved is just a few mouse clicks from publication, but the transition from pdf to printed page continues to be an epic challenge.
This time we don't have damp paper or damaged rollers to deal with. Then again, we might do, but first we'll have to get the computer to talk to the printer to find out.
There was much chuntering at Chatterbox HQ tonight when The Chief Chatterer and I assembled, expecting a ten-minute job to produce the first proof copy of the Black Isle's favourite community magazine. Seventy-five minutes later, after checking cables and settings and lots of switching off and on again, we admitted defeat: the fibre-optic highway from Mac to printer is closed.
I'll return tomorrow, armed with a replacement ethernet cable but little hope that it will solve the problem. If it doesn't, The Chief Chatterer may have to get out her bicycle and a loudhailer to let the Black Isle's residents know what's new. At least it will be in keeping with the area's two-wheeled project which was launched today.
Coming soon (but not quite yet)
Book Update: Today's Invergordon market was again ignored by locals and cruise ship passengers alike. Forthcoming dates have been scratched, although some Christmas ones aimed just at locals may go ahead. Fortunately, sales of two Tess books, a few cards and one Bumper Book of Black Isle Snappery meant that I finished the day ahead, unlike several other stallholders.
As a bonus, A Cat Called Tess is now on sale at Where The Heart Is on Invergordon's High Street – and within sight of three-figure sales. At this rate I'll break even by Christmas.
