We (Almost) Name The Guilty Man

An urgent email sent me hurrying to The Emporium in Cromarty this morning with more copies of The Bumper Book of Black Isle Snappery and A Cat Called Tess to satisfy the demands of the store's discerning customers.
I'd hoped to pick up some gossip while I was there, this being a small world in which everyone knows everyone, but when I revealed to shop assistant Annie that it was my car that had been crashed not far from the village, her reaction surprised me.
“That was your car!” she exclaimed. “The one taken by Xxxxx Xxxxx!” (Name withheld for legal reasons.)
It seems that half of Cromarty knows that this particular middle-aged heroin-addict loser, recently jailed for burglary, was the culprit. Whether they know it for a fact, or it's a rumour that's grown legs, I don't know, but tomorrow I'll make their suspicions known to the boys in blue.
Apart from that excitement it's been a quiet day, and even quieter since I deposited Matchgirl at Inverness Airport. The Rural Retreat's small pride marked her absence by snoozing on our bed all afternoon and much of the evening (Maia) or on the sofa (the kittens) which enabled me to get one good snap. It's been a tiring day for mini-moggies.
