A Star Is Born

The new, slimline, Strawdogs made their debut at Beauly British Legion last night where a good time was had by all – both the crowd and the band.
That the crowd was on the bijou side was more to do with hard economic times (I hope). Many pubs and clubs are struggling for custom, we were told, and the start of December's always a quiet time because people are saving for Christmas excess and spending cash on presents and preparations. That's our excuse, anyway. And the rest of Beauly was quiet too. Maybe everyone stayed in to watch The X Factor.
But the gig went well. Front man Michael overcame his jitters to produce a stellar performance and his backing band matched him. Drummer Matt even held on to his sticks all night – not something to be relied on. Somebody Told Me by The Killers was our final song, and a great one to finish on.
“See you again,” club boss Wilma said as we left. I'll take that as a promise of future gigs. Sadly, all we have in our diary at the moment is another charity appearance, on a date to be arranged in February. By then we'll have either a full-time singer or Michael firmly in control of the microphone. Time will tell.
Moggy Update: Matchgirl may be right to disbelieve feeding instructions for kittens the age of The Fearless Ones. Yesterday, I had to wrestle a chilli salmon fillet, filtched brazenly from my plate, out of Pandora's mouth; this morning I found her on the kitchen counter, egged on by Willow, head first inside Maia's bag of biscuits that's stored just below it. How she'd got the fastener off, I don't know.
Kittens are always up to something, except when they're snoozing or relaxing in a lap. But then they're probably thinking about it. The scamps.
