The Gloomy Gang

by admin - 19:18 on 08 January 2013

The prevailing atmosphere inside The Rural Retreat is one of gloom, for both human and feline inhabitants.

Leading The Gloomy Gang is Matchgirl, who reluctantly returned to her office today after the festive break. Her Janathon commitments meant leaving the cottage before daybreak to squeeze in a gym visit ahead of business. Poor girl.

Not far behind her is Maia, who reacted to reduced medication by suffering two asthmatic episodes overnight. Our poorly puss, who's been fine as ninepence for several weeks, is now back on full strength meds and recovering well. Poor girl.

Even the normally jaunty Fearless Ones have problems. Their teething continues to affect their appetites (unless they're practising to be fussy grown-up cats) and they may have heard Matchgirl on the phone with Dr Vet, fixing up a date for them to be spayed. Poor girls.

They put their problems behind them this afternoon and enjoyed a climbing session on the pine trees at the bottom of the garden. The kittens, that is – Maia stayed indoors.

Pandora 17

It's fortunate that Matchgirl wasn't there to see Pandora run ten feet up a vertical trunk until she found the first branch, from where she watched the world for a while (and gave me the latest Snapathon picture). Coming down again was problematic but she managed with style, running halfway down the trunk and dropping the rest of the way.

Bottom of the gloom scale is me, who heard today that Chatterbox, the Black Isle's finest community magazine, is on the shortlist for one of the Highlands and Islands Media Awards. Woo hoo! The winners are announced at the Press Ball on February 1

Sadly, the news came the day after our editor announced that she would quit after the spring edition. I won't go into the reason why, but it's the same one that may see me move on too. Life is change.
