A Weighty Decision
by admin - 20:32 on 14 February 2013
Matchgirl enjoyed an unexpected windfall when she attempted to return from Shetland yesterday – £200, dinner and an overnight B&B stay after she volunteered to give up her place on an overweight flight.
(It wasn't down to her weight, you understand – simply that FlyBe's dinky turboprop was too heavy for the storm-tossed conditions. The four blokes who also disembarked made a much bigger contribution.)
She's very decently decided to share her financial good fortune by putting the cash towards a night at Boath House later this month. By coincidence, the date we've chosen is on the same weekend that we first stayed there, five years ago. Time flies.
The wanderer returned to find most of the snow gone. Such is life. There were no deer for her, either. The only sightings were made on the Bushnell – very hazy ones (mist or condensation) – on four occasions between four and seven this morning. At the risk of jinxing them, it appears we have regular roe visitors.
However, martens didn't call at all last night, which left a fruit and nut bonanza for the early birds. Much better than worms.
