A Bird On A Stick
by admin - 20:57 on 20 March 2013
Among the articles in the most recent edition of The Iris, the thrice-yearly magazine of the RPS Nature Group, was a splenetic rant from a member who'd recently quit his local camera club because after forty years he was tired of seeing the same pictures.
His diatribe included the phrase "bird on a stick", which I've come across several times. Some snappers are snobs.
Leaving aside the fact that not everyone has equipment capable of capturing a hummingbird in flight or an underwater puffin, some of us are happy to record the beauty in our gardens. So I'm unashamed to present this morning's snap – just another goldfinch.
The snobs would complain about the untidy background. I, on the other hand, would prefer to see something that puts the bird in context rather than a plain background which makes the subject look as though it had been shot in a studio.
One day I may grow bored. Until then, expect to see lots more birds and sticks.
