Words And Music

The fame of Bassman Books is spreading. Following the successful publication of Rosemarkie People and Places I've received a letter containing a proposal for a further addition to my bijou imprint's list.
I've crossed my fingers and asked to see the manuscript – if it's as good as it sounds, and mutually satisfactory terms can be agreed – the first Bassman Book whose author is not a friend or acquaintance could soon be in the shops. Watch out, Random House.
This exciting news follows surprisingly financially satisfactory markets yesterday and today at which snaps, cards and books (but no calendars, sadly) were snapped up by eager customers. Tomorrow, I hope to complete a hat-trick of success at the book fair to be held at the Waterside Hotel in Inverness from 10am to 4.30pm. A trio of Bassman Books will be on sale, plus some fine snappery (and a bunch of books on other stalls). I'll see you there.
Matchgirl, who dreams of early retirement and being kept in a manner to which she'd like to become accustomed, is even more keen for me to continue to do well, so further unexpected news was equally welcome. I've been headhunted.
A musician notable in the Highlands has invited me to fill the vacant bass player's space in his band – a band that has gigs lined up and prospects of more. At this rate I could soon earn enough to have to pay tax again.
I'll try out with them in a couple of weeks. If we all get on, and my playing is deemed to be of the required standard, I'll reveal more about the band then. Wish me luck.
