On Tour In The Borders
by admin - 22:25 on 15 October 2013
The Great Borders Tour got off to a modest start this evening following the usual interminable slog down the A9 and around Edinburgh and a much more pleasant drive through Lauderdale to the home in Gordon of Dee and Don, my hosts for the next few days.
After gossip and an early dinner I was off again, this time in search of East Ord Village Hall, Berwick-upon-Tweed, where I was to entertain the members of Berwick Camera Club. My map-reading skills proved up to the job and shortly after seven-thirty I enthralled the twenty members with tales of cats, Namibia, pine martens, puffins and The Bumper Book of Black Isle Snappery.
At least, I think they were enthralled. Several questions followed my presentation so they must have stayed awake, and most feedback was positive, apart from the traditionalist who didn't like my musical accompaniment – not the choice of tunes, but the fact I'd used any at all. I didn't ask him what he thought of the RPS now that it offers AV distinctions which will certainly include music, and maybe sound effects too. There's no pleasing everyone.
Only one sale was made (a Tess) but with luck this will be a warm-up for busier nights on Wednesday and Thursday.
The Pride has not been giving Matchgirl an easy time in my absence, although I did think that leaving their biscuits in a cupboard next to the fridge was asking for trouble. Several plates were broken after Willow wormed her way inside. There's no stopping a hungry cat.
