The Old Country

Should Scotland choose independence next September, and its new government decide to send all the immigrants back home to make room for returning exiles, I'll be sent to a good place.
Yorkshire is third on Lonely Planet's list of best worldwide destinations behind Sikkim in India and The Kimberleys in Australia – proof that The Broad Acres really is God's Own Country, although proper Tykes will grumble that it should have come first.
There'll even be a bonus for Matchgirl (assuming she's sent with me) for the Yorkshire Marathon is run in October. Every cloud has a silver lining.
A typical Yorkshire scene, now all the pits, mills, factories and foundries have shut.
Lonely Planet had some good news for Scotland, however, naming it third-best country to visit behind Brazil and Antarctica. Presumably the penguins declared independence from the various countries that used to hold Antarctic territories, although I never heard about it. Secretive lot those penguins.
