A Tempting Prospect
by admin - 12:10 on 06 November 2013
November: already we've seen frost, fog, proper snow on Ben Wyvis and roe deer in the garden; The Fearless Ones failed to live up to their name, scuttling indoors to cower close to Matchgirl.
The Pentax has had few recent outings, but after an inspirational show of snaps at Dingwall Camera Club on Monday evening, presented by Caithness resident Ken Crossan, I was inspired to take the camera outdoors and play with the ancient Chinon f1.7 50mm manual lens.
I'm not convinced it works fully (or maybe I'm using it wrongly) because the aperture doesn't appear to affect the exposure, but it did produce one very atmospheric autumnal snap.
I'm tempted to splash out £120 on a modern Pentax f1.8 50mm that's more compatible with the K100D (and has auto focus) to assist in a plan to snap a few bands, as I don't seem to play any more (although AF is little use in low light situations, as martens have proved several times). But yesterday I handed over almost that much to Mr Specsavers, ironically because my eyesight has improved enough (on the left, at least) for me to need new glasses.
Despite that, I suspect I'll treat myself. After all, The Two Months of Christmas began on November 1 when festive ads filled the airwaves. Let the buying begin.
