An All-clear From Adam
by Russell Turner - 20:12 on 05 March 2018
Today I returned to Adam the Physio’s treatment table where after an hour of sports massage he declared both my legs and all associated muscles and tendons free of injury and ready for anything. I’d obviously followed his get-better advice since my last visit, he said, unlike some of his clients. No names were named.
I knew already that all was well because his oily manipulations of my formerly poorly calf produced none of the pain I experienced last time, which was a relief.
However, he’s thrown a spanner in the works of my rejigged training plan. A two-hour run at the end of this week is inadvisable, he warned, and recommended I reduce it to 90 minutes. This means that my first 2.5hr run, when all being well I’ll hit around 13 miles, won’t be until two weeks later. The original schedule had me running a half marathon in the weekend just gone, which shows how far behind I am now.
Fortunately, by adding half an hour to every long run after Friday I can still hit the magic 3.5hrs and (I hope) 20 miles with two weeks to spare.
Unfortunately, I now have very little wriggle room with regards to bad weather. The forecast for tomorrow is rubbish and I’ve got 70 minutes to run. Matchgirl, of course, would tell me to man up if she were here rather than in Shetland. I’ll do my best.
