Another Week Gone
by Russell Turner - 12:55 on 17 March 2018
That’s Six Weeks To Go finished today with the medium run I swapped with the long run for meteorological reasons. There was still plenty of wind and cold today but I completed five miles in 55 minutes and felt ready for more at the end.
Matchgirl was also out today, on a two-hour run before a 3.5-hour one tomorrow – her last long run before her 30-mile ultra in three weeks. She was not happy before she left, bemoaning the weather, fearful she’s starting a cold, and cursing Ben the Trainer for giving her so much to do this weekend.
“Running’s a bit silly,” she whimpered – words I never thought I’d hear her say – but when our paths crossed near the end of my run she’d cheered up hugely, even though she still had an hour to go. We ran for the few minutes our routes converged during which I was able to sustain a conversation, which suggests my effort was about right, even if my heart rate is still higher than my Garmin thinks it should be. I think it can’t cope with tall runners.
So time marches on (or waltzes in my case). Tomorrow it’s five weeks until the marathon. I’m still optimistic.
