A Happy Heart
by Russell Turner - 20:38 on 19 March 2018
Parts of Britain may still be shivering beneath a snowy blanket but in the Highlands it’s spring – for the time being. Sunny, still and cool meant a good day for my Five Weeks To Go short run, although I didn’t take long to warm up.
Today’s run followed the same route as last Monday’s four-miler, in virtually the same temperature, and ended in an identical time, bar a few seconds. The good news is that the heart rate required to do so had dropped by 5bpm; I must be getting fitter.
For the first time I wore Matchgirl’s redundant Spybelt (now she's moved on to a more chunky ultra runner’s backpack), filled with the energy gels I’ll need to get around the marathon course. It passed the comfort test, but a longer tryout will be needed before I decide whether to use it on The Big Day or find something else at Run4It when I visit later this week in search of size 13 socks. The costs keep mounting.
This week’s medium run should be on Wednesday. However, I’m still keen to dodge the rain where possible (I know, I’m a wuss) and there’s more good weather tomorrow unlike Wednesday when there’s a 70% chance of precipitation, according to the BBC weather website. Decisions, decisions.
The current dampness index for Friday, when I make my new longest run of 14-15 miles, is low, which is a relief. Whether it will stay that way remains to be seen.

I use the Met Office site instead of Beeb. Think it's more accurate.
