Milestones And Metronomes
by Russell Turner - 20:02 on 27 March 2018
When I learned I’d got a place in the London Marathon I had 29 weeks to prepare. Now I’ve got 25 days. It doesn’t feel like half long enough.
But progress is still being made. Today’s four-mile stint took me past 70 miles run this month (I’ll have done 90+ by the end) and beyond 250 miles since training began. The Garmin knows it all.
The Weather Gods took pity on me this morning, when I was resigned to wearing the waterproof jacket during my experiment at pacing myself with a metronome. They stopped the rain not long before I set out and started it again when I was safely back inside The Rural Retreat.
The results were good, producing a pace graph almost as flat as Matchgirl’s. I wouldn’t use it for the whole marathon but it might be handy to keep me in check for the first few miles, or maybe I’ve time to use it enough to get the feel of the pace I need without it. Experiments will continue tomorrow when I’ll attempt to extend my non-stop running record to seven miles.
Even better was that the aches I’ve felt since the weekend disappeared when I ran and, at the time of writing, have mostly not returned. I’m even cautiously optimistic about the next long run. Fingers crossed.
