Getting Ready For Resolis
by Russell Turner - 15:14 on 11 November 2018
It’s official – on Saturday, January 26 (the perfect date at the end of the dismal post-Christmas month) City Limits will take over Resolis Hall for the benefit gig I hope will raise a substantial chunk of the £2,000 I need to find in return for my London Marathon charity place with Cats Protection. Only £10; how can you resist?
The publicity drive began today with several Facebook posts. Expect to see regular reminders leading up to the gig.
My pre-training programme runs continued this morning with a restrained 40-minute session which covered just over 3.5 miles – the longest and furthest I’ve run since t’ Great Yorkshire Rain Festival. My pace was ideal and breathing felt as good at the end as it did at the beginning, which may have been down to a temperature barely above 0ºC, no wind, and a slight mist. Shame that I’m unlikely to find those conditions in London.
Marathon training proper begins on December 27, although a slew of Johnny Foxes gigs for City Limits next year, the dates expected any day now, could mean another reshuffle of the programme. Training plans don’t take into account late weekend nights; presumably real athletes are all tucked up in bed at 9pm after eating quinoa smoothies for supper.
Supervet Update: My trip to Aberdeen with Matchgirl to see Channel 4’s veterinary hero was worth two uncomfortable train journeys, even if the AECC is a cross between an aircraft hanger and an auction mart. Noel Fitzpatrick is a star. It’s fortunate that he didn’t go into politics or televangelism because by now he would have taken over the world. Or maybe it’s unfortunate that he didn’t.
