Excuses, Excuses
by Russell Turner - 16:51 on 10 December 2018
It seems that four days is too big a gap between runs. My previous ones, on Wednesday and last Monday, were completed without problems; today’s took a bit more effort.
Maybe the 4am bedtime and four hours’ sleep after Saturday’s gig was the culprit, or my new shoes, or the heavy, damp air, or a combination of all three. Or even all the biscuits I ate yesterday, for which I blame Matchgirl – she opened the box I won in a raffle then flew away to Shetland; I’d have left it sealed until Christmas.
Whatever, today’s planned easy 60 minutes turned into a less easy 40 minutes. Setting off far to fast (fast being relative, of course) didn’t help. Maybe it’s time to get out the metronome again to help me find a sensible pace from the start.
The first opportunity will be on Wednesday, by when I’ll have made a return train trip to Glasgow with Carol, my gig wife, consumed curry and Jack Daniel’s and rocked out to Def Leppard at the Hydro, so I may not be at peak performance then either. There’s always Friday.
Better running news is that my marathon fundraising total has crept past 20% (just) of the £2,000 I need to raise. I’ve still got most of my eggs in the one basket of the benefit gig in January, so I’m not worrying yet. Let’s hope I’m still unworried in February.
