On The Buses
by Russell Turner - 17:25 on 12 December 2018
My latest trip to Glasgow with gig wife Carol got off to an unimpressive start with a replacement bus service between Inverness and Perth. ScotRail, I’m told, have introduced new trains with not enough trained drivers at the same time as a timetable change. Problems are expected for a while. How it will affect my trip next week with real wife Matchgirl, who’s keen to see Madness (as am I), remains to be seen.
But the effort was worth it. Although support band Cheap Trick were an over-amplified disappointment, Def Leppard were impressive even though I was familiar with only two songs from an extensive back catalogue. My loss – great music and a great show, enjoyed by a wider age-range than I’d expected. There are still a few young rockers around.
Thankfully, the return trip was problem-free and comfortable. However, if there’s a cancellation next Monday it’s not inconceivable that we’ll abandon train for car. Time will tell.
Despite heavy legs from the journeys and the Hydro’s cramped seats I squeezed in an easy 40-minute run on my return – and it was run at properly easy pace. Fingers crossed that I can find it again when I need it next.
